The DG Approach

At David Game, we believe that it is essential to promote the joy of knowledge and learning, whilst simultaneously maintaining the sharpest possible focus on the demands of the examination. The aim at all times is to ensure that every student fulfils his or her potential.

  1. Tutors are selected on the basis of not only experience of their subjects, but also their dynamic and sympathetic approach to teaching. Many have also been examiners so that they know exactly what will be required from their students.
  2. We believe that tutors who communicate with enthusiasm make learning both interesting and enjoyable.
  3. The small class sizes (average 8) and intensive tuition mean that all students are given personal attention.
  4. Where additional tuition is necessary, it is available on a one-to-one basis
  5. We believe in attention to detail. For example, we conduct regular audits of examination board requirements to ensure that students and tutors are following the current examination specifications and options.
  6. We use exam-based teaching methods. Students receive regular examination practice in addition to sitting trial examinations in December and April. By testing students regularly on their previous work, we not only ensure their full understanding of their subjects but build their confidence for the final examinations.
  7. We place great emphasis on the successful time-management of our courses; it is essential that the teacher covers everything in the specification, knowing what to spend 20 minutes on as opposed to say 4 hours on a more important topic. This is particularly true in the one-year intensive programmes for both GCSE and A Level.
  8. A highly organised teaching programme, underpinned by regular written homework and timed tests, will lead to a successful outcome, given 100% commitment, attendance and punctuality on the part of the student.
  9. Monitoring and assessment is also communicated to parents/guardians who can then check on progress via the College Intranet.
  10. We ensure study techniques are fully integrated into all teaching :- study skills, revision testing, note taking, critical thinking, speed reading, memory skills and time management  - much more than you would find in any ordinary school or college.
  11. Each student is assigned a personal tutor to supervise academic progress and general welfare.
